Olivia Moss from our Salford young people’s team has won Apprentice of the Year Award (Business and Professional Services category) at the Salford City College Group Apprenticeship Awards.
Olivia picked up her prize at the ceremony at FutureSkills, in the prestigious MediaCityUK. Olivia was joined by fellow apprentice Muzammil Adam, who was also shortlisted for the award.
Olivia and Muzammil have both built their skills in a range of administrative tasks that support the day-to-day running of our Salford careers information and guidance service. This includes dealing with phone enquiries from young people, families and partner agencies. The pair also help manage social media content and take minutes at team meetings – all contributing to effective communication and coordination across the service.
They have also had the chance to develop their own specialisms.
Olivia supports the planning, delivery and record-keeping of summer programmes and short NEET programmes, working closely with colleagues to ensure activities run smoothly and are accurately documented. She carries out home visits alongside careers advisers, promotes Career Connect at events and open days. Meanwhile, Muzammil’s role includes providing accurate data reports and inputting information into systems, while also collating job bulletins for caseload clients and gathering SEN provision information for young people with Education, Health and Care Plans.
“I really didn’t expect it. I was so shocked! I am extremely grateful to be chosen for this award out of all of the amazing people who were nominated. It is definitely an opportunity that will help me in the future!
“My favourite part of the role is doing the events, such as the programmes we provide for our young people. Since starting this role, my communication skills have increased massively; I used to hate ringing anyone I didn’t know, but now I can speak to anybody so confidently inside and outside of work…I didn’t expect to feel so confident in a role as I have always doubted myself in previous jobs, but I think this is down to having an amazing team who support and help me every day. I love that I am learning new things every single day in an apprenticeship, but I also get to work as I learn which is very important to me!”
“I feel honoured to have been nominated for this award. It was a surprise that I was nominated but I am very grateful for this nomination. My journey with Career Connect has been really good so far. I have amazing colleagues who help me if I am ever stuck on something. I also have really supportive managers who care about my career projection and how my time with Career Connect has been.”
“Olivia and Muzammil have been invaluable additions to the Salford team. They work great together on tracking and social media whilst also taking on their own specialist responsibilities – Muzammil in data and Olivia in programmes and events. They fitted in right from the go and I know I speak for the team in saying how we rely on them for so many day-to-day administrative tasks. It’s been wonderful seeing them grow in confidence and experience.
“I was so pleased to see Liv be given this recognition – she has worked so hard in her role at Career Connect – building on her skills and knowledge – always keen to get involved, ready to pick up new tasks – she is a very valued and popular member of the team – well done Liv!”
