This week, we attended Raise Up – an intergenerational social mobility and youth summit exploring the impact of social mobility for both business and young people.
Career Connect’s Director of Operations Sarah Vaughan joined more than 300 young people and hundreds of employers at Boxpark Liverpool for the all-day summit which focused on ‘re-energising social mobility in the UK to support future economic growth’.
It aimed to do this through inspiring speakers, connecting people, and sharing practical knowledge and research.
Speakers included special guests Ashley John-Baptiste (presenter and author), discussing his lived experience in the care system, Sarah Atkinson (CEO of Social Mobility Foundation), Jamie Carrragher, and Dragon’s Den’s Sara Davies MBE.
Young entrepreneurs from the Liverpool City Region showcased their work and experiences of setting up a business in the region.
Channel 4 shared its latest research into social mobility and the mindset of Gen Z – and how this can help us understand how to build a future fit for a generation.
Cllr Marion Atkinson, Leader of Sefton Council and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority portfolio holder for Employment, Education and Skills also spoke about the vision for young people across the region.
Sarah Vaughan, Director of Operations (Liverpool City Region) attended Raise Up, meeting young people and employers.
She shared the exciting work we’re doing to help young people overcome barriers to employment, education and training and fulfil their potential, and how we embed our participants’ voices into everything we do.
Sarah said:
“It was inspiring to see so many passionate employers at the Raise Up Social Mobility event. With nearly 1 million NEET young people in the UK, we must go beyond opportunity—we need system change.
“At Career Connect, we help young people realise their talents through pre-employability and careers support. We will be working collaboratively with Local Authorities on the trailblazer initiatives, which are great news for our region.
“Equality and inclusion are central, especially for those furthest from employment. Young people are key to economic growth in the Liverpool City Region, and across the UK—let’s tap into their potential.
“At Career Connect, we’re proud to align with the new 10-Year Growth Plan for Liverpool City Region. Our aim is to bring talented young people and opportunities together.”
