Young people from Salford aged 16-18 can choose from a range of FREE activity and experience building programmes this summer.
From insights into the construction trade, and sessions on beauty, tattoo and graffiti art (new for 2023), bike repair and boxing, organisations across Salford are hosting a full programme with something to suit everyone.
The programme has been put together by Career Connect’s Salford Connexions, who are commissioned by Salford City Council to work across the city supporting young people into career or training opportunities. Last year more than 120 young people took part.
If you are between 16–18-year-old, live in Salford and are not in employment or education, you can enjoy the programmes for free.
Some run for a few days, while others run on set days for up to five weeks, helping participants to look at their options, try different career areas and develop some of the key skills they need to enter the world of work.
There is no cost to young people or parents, lunches or refreshments will be provided, and help may be available to cover any travel costs.
Eccles Boxing Gym and Phoenix Body Mind and Soul hosts She’s Punching from July 19th to August 9th. Girls are invited to learn boxing techniques and enjoy fitness sessions, combined with sessions on wellbeing. Lunch is provided and there is up to £100 in gift vouchers available based on attendance.

Gift vouchers are available up to £100 based on attendance. Sessions start on August 1st and run every Tuesday and Wednesday at Peel Park Pavilion, until August 23rd.
Manchester Bike Kitchen’s Riding to Success (starts Tuesday 8th August) sees young people being given the chance to keep the bike they work on and up to £100 in gift vouchers depending on attendance. The exciting cycling programme includes bike building, cycle training and a chance to develop teamwork and self-confidence.
If you want to get creative, come along to a free afternoon of Tattoo and Graffiti Art with artist Becki Miller – and get a £10 voucher for attending. Sessions take place from August 23rd at a range of locations across Salford.

If you want to enjoy a day of pampering, book onto Pamper and Polish on Tuesdays in August across different locations, where you can have your hair styled and nails painted.

A Great Way to Spend Your Summer
Rachel Raza, Team Manager at Salford Connexions said: “This is the third year we have run a summer programme on behalf of Salford City Council.
“Each year we have fantastic feedback from young people who have taken part, with many of them finding new interests or just improving their wellbeing. It’s a great way to spend your summer, try something new in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, and you may even learn some new skills.”
