Who we are

Career Connect is a charity who are passionate about providing high quality independent careers advice, bridging the gap to learning and employment and better life chances for young people and adults. We provide a wide range of career management services, some funded by Local Authorities and schools and colleges in your area. We are also a provider of the services to those in the justice system.

Career Connect is Data Controller for the careerconnect.org.uk website. This privacy notice covers general queries submitted through the website. In most cases your information in not held on the website, but passed to an operational team. Please see the individual team privacy notice for how this data is processed.

Career Connect is giving you this information as required by the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA18) and the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR).

Why we collect and store data about you

We process data that you give us when you contact Career Connect via the website.  If your enquiry is related to a specific contract, then it will be passed to that contract and the data processed under that contract’s privacy notice. Please contact your Career Connect team for more details.

will proceed via the website into our customer relationship management system (CRM) so that we can deliver a streamlined and efficient service to existing and potential customers.

 

Why we are able to do this

The Data Protection Act 2018 (article 6.1) requires we have proper justification for processing your data. For the website, the basis are:

  • Consent – we assume your consent for us to process your data when you submit data through the website
  • Legitimate interests – the website is an important method for Career Connect to interact with its clients and other stakeholders.

 

Types of data we collect

From the website, the only data we collect is what is on the enquiry you submit.

Your details will, where possible, be passed to a Career Connect team who will process your data under the terms of that contract.

Opting in to receive newsletters via the website

When you opt in to receive a newsletter (featuring charity news and information on our services and commercial products) from Career Connect, we will hold your data until you opt out.

We don’t rent or trade email lists with other organisations and businesses. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and analyse performance, to help us improve our newsletters.

You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing [email protected]

Donations via the website

We use a third party (CAF donate) to process individual donations. You can find the CAF privacy process here: Privacy[1]

The information Career Connect collects from donors:

  • Name and contact details
  • Donation amount and method
  • Gift Aid status
  • Communication preferences

If you make a donation, we will be required to share your data with HMRC for the purpose of Gift Aid claims.

How long we keep your data

We will keep your data for six years after our last contact with you. This may be after your query has been dealt with, or the last time we send you a newsletter.

Your Rights

Access to your personal information

Under the DPA 2018 and UK GDPR, you have the right to access and amend any of the personal data that we hold.

Right to Rectification

If you think something we hold is inaccurate, you have a right to have this corrected. This may not involve the inaccuracy being deleted, but an amendment will be made so the correct version is recorded.

Right to be Forgotten

The DPA and UK GDPR include a right to be forgotten. This means all data we hold about you will be deleted.

Please note that this is not an absolute right and there may be a requirement or justification for Career Connect to retain all or parts of the data.

Right to restriction of processing

If you are unhappy with what data is being processed (stored or shared) about you, you can ask for the processing to be restricted. This means that nothing your record will not be updated until your concerns have been addressed.

Right to Data Portability

You can ask for the data Career Connect holds about you to be sent to you in an electronic format so you can share it with other providers.

Right to Object to Automated Decision Making.

You have a right to object to Career Connect making decisions or judgements about you made by a computer system – e.g. if you do a test that is marked by computer.

Career Connect does not use automated decision making.

Career Connect intends to protect Personal Data and to maintain its quality and so will use all reasonable efforts to take all appropriate technical and organisational measures and precautions to keep Personal Data secure and protected from unauthorised access, use or alteration and unlawful destruction.

Note to Parent/Carers

Parent/Carers of young people aged 13 or over have no automatic right of access to their children’s information. Young People aged 13 or over will generally be able to make any decisions about consent for Career Connect to process their information and to make a Subject Access Request for their records in their own right. Parents/Carers will normally only be able to access their children’s data with the signed consent of their child.

Access may be granted where it can be proven that a client is not capable of representing themselves and that the parent/carer constitutes the client’s legitimate representative.
