The CEC offers a bursary of £1000 to public schools and colleges who have a Career Leader who completes the training. All registrations for this course must go through the CEC website.
The certificate covers three of the optional units from the Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development:
- Unit 17 – Lead and manage career development work within an organisation.
- Unit 18 – Continuously improve career development work within an organisation.
- Unit 19 – Plan and design career-related learning programmes.

Progression:
Once you have achieved your Careers Leader certification, you may want to use it as a progression route to the full Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development.
Having already completed three optional units at Level 6 you will be able to complete the additional seven mandatory units (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7), which would give you the full qualification.
Our Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development qualifies you to deliver one-to-one personal guidance.
How is the CEC Careers Leader qualification delivered?
We deliver the Careers Leader programme either via Microsoft Teams meetings, or face-to-face at Walker House, Liverpool. Our courses start regularly between September and March.
Within the course there are three modules, approximately one taken per term, comprised of the following:
Day 1&2 – Module 1
- Introduction to the Careers Leader Programme.
- Key themes and key players in Career Policy, legislation, and frameworks.
- Leading and managing career development.
- Introduction to Unit 17 – lead and manage career development work.
Day 3&4 – Module 2
- Career Theory in practice.
- The role of personal guidance.
- Planning, designing, and implementing a career related learning programme.
- Introduction to Unit 19 – plan and design career related learning programmes.
Day 5&6 – Module 3
- Opportunities structure and Labour Market Information.
- Post 16/18 options; technical and vocational routes.
- Continuously improve career development work in an organisation.
- Report on outcomes and evidencing impact.
- Introduction to Unit 18 – continuously improve career development work.

Our assessment methods include assignments, professional discussions, and work projects.
Please be aware that the qualification contains an element of self-study that must be completed individually by the learner.
