A subsidiary of Career Connect, Achieve North West Connect supports offenders and ex-offenders to access employability services and prepare to move back into the community.

The Partner of the Year award is presented to the prison partner delivering the most outstanding work with offenders. Phil has ensured positive outcomes by building strong relationships with prison departments. He has helped increase the number of prison leavers entering into employment by an impressive 300 per cent.

Changing lives, reducing reoffending, and ensuring public protection

Phil said: “I was overwhelmed to have been nominated for this award but to win it is unbelievable. I am proud of the work we do at HMP Haverigg. The success we have had over the past 12 months is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all members of staff within the establishment. The work carried out here has a direct and lasting impact by changing lives, reducing reoffending, and ensuring public protection.”

Prison residents said that they value the respect and support Phil gives to those he works with. This level of engagement is just one of the reasons he was named the winner of the award.

Integrated Careers Working

Phil has also championed more integrated careers working within his establishment and set out early interventions with new residents. Partners from various organisations along with HMPPS staff now work even more closely to encourage residents to focus on their career prospects at the earliest stage in their journey at HMP Haverigg.

Ant Bigley, Team Manager for IAG Lancashire and Cumbria, said: “We, as a team, are very proud of Phil’s achievement and this is testament to the work carried out on the IAG programme that is helping to change the lives of those we engage with”.
